Police file case against 55 BNP leaders, activists after Sunday rally

Probashbangla24 online Desk : The police have filed a case against 55 BNP leaders and activists, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for ‘instigating people against the government’.

At least seven among the accused were remanded for a day by a Dhaka court, said Abu Md Fazlul Karim, chief of Hatirjheel Police Station.

The central BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, had given ‘provocative’ statements during the public meeting the BNP organised on Sunday.

The leaders also demanded the release of their jailed party chief, Khaleda Zia, and the formation of a non-partisan, neutral government during the election.

The leaders and activists of the BNP and its allies disrupted traffic in Moghbazar, attacked the police and vandalised some vehicles following the statements from the BNP leaders, police alleged.

Mirza Abbas, the BNP standing committee member, has been named as the main suspect in the case. BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman have also been accused in the case.
