First learning center for Rohingya children to be opened Wednesday

Probashbangla24 online Desk : The first Temporary Learning Centre (TLC) in Kutupalong refugee camp is set to be opened officially on Wednesday.

BRAC, with support from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has established the learning center with an aim to create more educational opportunities for Rohingya youngsters.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam, Joint Secretary, Development, at the Bangladesh Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Nesar Ahmed, acting Head of Operations and Sub office for UNHCR in Cox’s Bazar Bernadette Castel-Hollingsworth, and head of BRAC Humanitarian Crisis Management Programme Mohammed Abdus Salam are expected to attend the opening event.

The two-storey TLC building will be able to house up to 240 where the ill-fated Rohingya children will learn in two classrooms in three shifts every day.

There are 540,000 children of school age (aged 3-24 years old) in all the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar while only 160,552 have spaces in temporary learning centers.
